Swimming Report - September 2013 Added September 23, 2013
  1. First District event held in new Olympia, 7th September, 2013, appears to have gone off with no major difficulties.  Feedback was generally positive, after the event.  There was a real worry about the likelihood of noise from the public, but this appears to have had less of an impact than expected, although not ideal.  There were a number of issues identified, for example, lack of seating for swimmers at marshalling, swimmers walking between officials and pool, but I am sure most will be resolved by the next time.  Consensus is that a lot of the potential problems were resolved with the operaters by Moraig MacDonald in the weeks leading to the meet.

  2. We have lost a member from the swim committee, with David Poole leaving the district.

  3. There will be no Nancy Riach schools competition this year due to the new facility, and the timing.  It is planned to re-instate next year.

  4. The DRP starts in a few weeks time, with all 28 of the qualifying swimmers taking up their places.  The lead coach this year is Alan Reed from Falkirk, with assistants Erin Jones, David Haig, and Jane Simpson.  Team managers will be Paula Murray, and Gordon Dyer.

  5. The district squad places are again being offered to all swimmers in one of the Scottish squads.  However, with the continual tightening of times, in particular for senior bronze standard swimmers, the swimmers numbers in this category are small.  This despite a large number of swimmers from the district competing in national events.  It has been agreed to offer these swimmers the chance to train long course as part of the squad, and times have been circulated based on national event qualifying times.  Clubs should nominate swimmers as soon as possible.

  6. Midland team for Intercounties is finalised, with a couple of replacement swimmers having to have been identified.

  7. From Scottish Swimming.  New meet license forms are nearly ready to be signed off, and will be circulated as soon as.  Amended Scottish Swimming regulations are also nearing completion, and there are likely to be a couple of issues that could impact on district meets.

  8. National records set  by district swimmers
Kirsty Simpson  -  Scottish National Age Group Record – 17 years girls
    100m backstroke – 1.03.72 on 15/06/2013
    100m backstroke – 1.03.25 on 28/06/2013
Almost 2 seconds inside the old record
